Pattern of IBPS CWE Clerks

  • IBPS CWE is an online exam which has an overall duration of 2 hours.
  • The exam is worth 200 marks and is divided into 5 sections of 40 marks each.
  • The five sections are (I) Reasoning (II) English Language (III) Numerical Ability (IV) General Awareness (V) Computer Knowledge
  • There is a minimum cutoff score for each section. You must get a minimum score on each section and also a minimum aggregate score to be considered to be shortlisted for interview.
  • Incorrect answers attract a penalty. For each incorrect answer .25 marks are deducted from your aggregate score.
  • The focus of General Awareness section is on testing your knowledge of banking industry and current events.
  • Except English Language, all other sections are available bilingually, i.e. in both English and Hindi. You can choose to attempt these sections in either of the two languages.

Numerical Ability (Math)

This section has questions from numeracy and mathematical concepts up to class 10th level. Here it is important to understand the topics that comprise the syllabus of the numerical ability section. In this regard, the analysis of Math section in IBPS Clerk exam 2014 can be particularly beneficial. The topic wise break-up and the analysis given below will give you clarity on how the section is structured and how you need to prepare for it in order to perform well.

Topic-Wise Breakup: Numerical Ability

Detailed Analysis

  1. A cutoff score of 13 was required to clear the section and become eligible for short listing in the general category.
  2. The exam is highly focused on testing your ability to perform numerical operations. Data Interpretation and Approximate Value Calculation questions together comprised 50% of the section.
  3. Memorizing the values of squares, cubes, square roots, cube roots, fractional conversion of percentage figures, tables up to 30 etc. is critical for performing calculation work quickly.
  4. Strong performance on Data interpretation (DI) alone was almost sufficient to clear the sectional cut off. However, when it comes to DI you must be prepared for some lengthy calculations.
  5. Out of the 3 core areas of Mathematics i.e. Arithmetic, Geometry and Algebra, the one carrying highest weight age was Arithmetic.
  6. The combined weight age of Algebra & Geometry was worth 7 marks, where questions worth 5 marks were from Simplification of Algebric expressions alone.
  7. Step based conventional problem solving approach must be replaced with a conceptual shortcut based approach. Only through such an approach can you perform well under time pressure.
